SQL Server install failure

Question:

When installing SQL Server, I receive one of the following errors:

  • " Component … has failed to install"
  • " An error occurred while installing system components …".
  • " Error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe"

How can I fix it?

Answer:

  1. First of all, these errors may occur due to the unfinished update of Windows and its components. To eliminate this cause:
    • Restart your computer (even if it was not prompted by the system).
    • Visit Windows Update and check for updates.
    • Restart your computer again regardless of the results.
  2. If you still receive these errors, follow the steps:
    1. For "Error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe", use instructions provided in the following article: SQL Server connection error: " Error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe", when starting / installing Business Studio
    2. If the error text is different, try to install SQL Server manually. To do this, run the SQLEXPR_x86_ENU.EXE file and follow the instructions of the installation program (leave the default settings), the file can be found in the folder with the program distribution kit along the path: package\SqlExpress2014_BS.
